Quick Trailer Tips
Proper loading is key to safe towing and maintaining stability on the road. A poorly balanced trailer can lead to swaying, loss of control, or damage to the towing vehicle.
Place 60% of the total weight in the front half of the trailer, near the hitch. Keeping the front heavier prevents trailer sway and improves handling. Avoid placing too much weight at the back, as this can make the trailer unstable.
Evenly distribute cargo on both sides of the trailer to maintain proper weight balance. Uneven loads can cause tilting and unpredictable movement, making towing dangerous.
Use tie-down straps, wheel chocks, and weight distribution hitches to prevent cargo from shifting during transit. A moving load can throw off balance and affect braking and steering.
The tongue weight (downward force on the hitch) should be 10-15% of the total trailer weight. Too little weight on the hitch causes swaying, while too much puts excessive strain on the tow vehicle.
Loading your enclosed trailer, car hauler, or utility trailer rental properly ensures better control, improved safety, and a smoother ride. Take a few extra minutes to load your trailer correctly and enjoy a worry-free trip.
