Electrical Check Before Every Trip
Before hitting the road, always take 2 minutes to check your trailer’s electrical system. A small issue like a non-working taillight can lead to big problems — from fines to dangerous situations on the road.
What to Check:
1. Light Functions:
- Brake lights
- Turn signals (left and right)
- Running lights and reflectors
- Reverse lights (if equipped)
Tip: Use a friend or reflective surface to confirm all lights are working.
2. Wiring Condition
- Look for cracks, exposed wires, or corrosion on connectors.
- Make sure wires aren’t dragging or loosely attached to the trailer frame.
- Check the 7-pin or 4-pin plug for clean, solid contact.
Tip: If you see frayed cables — tape isn’t a fix. Replace or professionally repair before towing.
3. Battery (if equipped)
If your trailer has an onboard battery (e.g., for brakes or internal lighting), check the voltage level and charge. A dead battery can disable electric brake systems.
Why It Matters:
Proper electrical function
- Legal compliance
- Safer braking and signaling
- Visibility at night and during poor weather
